    SAME DAY CROWN CONSULTATION

At your Same Day Crown Consultation Dr Keenan will carry out an examination, review x-rays, evaluate suitable treatments and determine if a Same Day Crown is right for your situation. You’ll also be provided with a treatment plan and quotation. There is no obligation to go ahead with the treatment plan. In some circumstances, Dr Keenan may advise that other treatments are needed prior to proceeding with a Same Day Crown.

New Patients Please Note: one of our team members will be in touch prior to your appointment to find out when you had your last check-up and if recent x-rays are available. If so, we will then ask you to sign a Dental Record Release Form, which we will send on your behalf to the dental practice with your current x-rays and records. If you haven’t had a check-up in the last 6 months or x-rays taken in the last 2 years, we will book you in to have these at the same time as your Same Day Crown consultation.

    SAME DAY CROWN: CROWN PREPARATION

On the day of your Same Day Crown you will have 2 appointments. The first appointment is crown preparation and takes place in the morning. Dr Keenan will prepare the tooth under local anaesthetic. During this time, we have Netflix available for you to watch on the ceiling above the dental chair. After tooth prep, a digital 3D scan of your mouth will be taken and sent to our on site dental laboratory. At this point you can leave the dental studio and return a few hours later for your new crown to be inserted.

SAME DAY CROWN: LAB CREATE CROWN

Once the digital 3D scan is received, the laboratory will craft your crown using advanced 3D printing, milling technology and quality materials to ensure optimal fit and durability. An experienced Dental Technician will then finish the crown to achieve a high level of aesthetics and precision fit.

    SAME DAY CROWN: CROWN INSERTION

In the afternoon you will come back for your second appointment and Dr Keenan will then insert your new lab crafted crown using biological grade high quality cements. This is a quick and easy process, allowing you to leave us with a new natural looking crown and a smile on your face!

If Dr Keenan has recommended you wear an Occlusal Splint at night to protect your teeth and new crown from grinding or clenching, he will then take another digital 3D scan of your mouth once the crown has been inserted. The scan will then be sent to the lab for production. The Splint will be ready in a couple of working days and we’ll book you in for a quick Splint Try-in appointment.

What is a Same Day Crown?

Firstly, let's start with what is a Crown?

Dental crowns are an important part of preventative dentistry and are used to help save decayed, chipped, damaged or worn down teeth. A crown is a cap that is placed over an existing tooth to help restore the shape, size and overall improve its strength and appearance.

Primarily crowns are made by experienced Dental Technicians at a dental laboratory and can be made from ceramic, PFM or gold. The chosen material will depend on the location, functionality, aesthetics and finally your preference. The Dental Technician will expertly craft the crown to match the shape and shade of your existing teeth.

Crowns generally take 3 appointments (initial consultation/treatment plan, preparation appointment and insert appointment) and require the wearing of a temporary crown between appointment 2 and 3, which is usually at least 2 weeks.

  • Same Day Crowns or One-visit Crowns

For Same Day Crowns, other Dentists are generally offering a CEREC crown. These differ to the traditional crown explained above as they are milled onsite by the Dentist and inserted within a couple of hours after prepping the tooth. Using this method requires only 2 appointments (initial consult and then prep/insert appointment). This option is convenient for the patient but some feel a milled crown without the involvement of an experienced Dental Technician may not fit as well, last as long or look as natural as a lab crafted crown.
